Maintain checksums and layered protection to verify data integrity throughout the entire storage chain
Disk failure is not the only threat to data. At large scale, longer rebuild times, the possibility of simultaneous disk failures, and Silent Data Corruption become increasingly important. RAID-5 and RAID-6 also face significant limitations as array size and disk count grow.
Xendure uses the BitExpander algorithm to protect data with high redundancy coefficients. For example, with a 32/40 configuration, data is distributed across 40 disks and remains accessible even if 8 disks fail simultaneously.
A 160-bit checksum is maintained across the Xendure data path so that small data corruptions can be detected and corrupted data can be repaired using healthy data fragments.
