The different components of the solution

Architecture

The Xendure solution consists of one or more master servers and multiple storage nodes with different capacities.

Unlike RAID, the Xendure master node does not split data and send it to storage servers. Each client performs the operations of splitting data and sending it to storage nodes, and of reading and reassembling data. The controller server primarily coordinates these operations.

As a result, increasing the number of storage nodes or clients also increases aggregate read/write bandwidth, unlike traditional systems where adding clients increases pressure on a centralized system.

MDS Server

MDS Server

The MDS server acts as the Master or Orchestrator.

Like the person who blows a whistle to coordinate rowers in a racing boat, all clients and storage nodes coordinate with the MDS server to determine which disk on which storage node should receive data, or from where data should be read.

XC12 Storage Node

The XC12 storage server has 12 drive bays and is intended for environments where lower capacity or higher performance is required.

Because each XC12 node provides substantial processing capacity while accommodating fewer SSDs or disks, it can contribute significant processing power to the overall cluster.

XC36 Storage Node

The XC36 storage server has 36 drive bays—24 at the front and 12 at the rear—and is intended for environments requiring very high capacity.

Because each XC36 node provides very high storage density, it is designed to maximize usable capacity within the minimum rack space.
